As a result of the premature death of Charles Underwood on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, the Chicago Chapter of the Lincoln University (MO) Alumni Association has lost a wonderful alumni member and dear friend. Our prayers go out to his wife (and our alumnae), Janet, who has been such a wonderful support for him. Now is the time for us to support her. 

Memorial services will be held to honor Charles on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Greater Bethesda Baptist Church in the Main Sanctuary at 5301 South Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by a funeral ceremony at 7:00 p.m.

Interment for Charles will not occur until the following day, Wednesday, April 27, 2011. The procession will leave at 10:00 a.m. from A.A. Rayner & Son’s Funeral Home located at 318 East 71st Street in Chicago (773) 846-6133.

Our best wishes and love to Janet and her family during this difficult time. Please keep the Underwood family in your prayers.

The Chicago Chapter of the Lincoln University (MO) Alumni Association will be hosting “Founders Day 2011” at the L 26 Restaurant in the South Loop Hotel, located at 11 West 26th Street in Chicago on Saturday, March 26, from 11:30 am until 2:30 pm. (Click link: Founders Day 2011 Flyer)

Our theme (and mission) for this event is: Celebrating the Soldiers’ Legacy.

We are fortunate to have as our Founders Day 2011 guest speaker, the internationally acclaimed genealogist, Tony Burroughs. Tony (visit his website here) has consulted on the Reverend Al Sharpton / Strom Thurmond genealogy, the Oprah Winfrey genealogy, African American Lives2, The Real Family of Jesus documentary and much, much more. In this intimate setting, among Lincolnites, family and friends, we know Tony will bring a wealth of information to our celebration and will be another high point in the Chicago Chapter’s history of hosting this worthy event. 

We want YOU to join the celebration, so we are initially holding 2 seats for every Lincoln Alumni member. However, because reservations are going very fast and the restaurant seating is limited to 150 patrons, we urge you not to wait until it is too late. You won’t want to miss this one. Reservations are only $50 and the deadline to reserve your place is March 7, 2011.
